- Experienced, Knowledgeable Staff : Our staff of 12 averages over 15 years experience per per staff member! Patient families frequently compliment our professionalism. Dr. David B. Hamer joined his father's practice in 1988. Twenty-two years later the tradition of excellence started by Dr. Frederick C. Hamer, who passed away in 2007, continues. Dr. Hamer provides the opportunity every year for his staff to attend the national meeting of the AAO. Recent trips to Hawaii, San Francisco, and Boston have furthered the staffs knowledge of advancements in the field and have further fostered team unity.
- Two doctor collaboration : Working as a team to treat cases, Dr. Hamer and Dr. Brown collaborate in order to come up with the best treatment plans for their patients. Dr. Hamer's long term experience compliments Dr. Brown's recent orthodontic education and knowledge in the latest of orthodontic technologies and working within the same office provides a built in "second opinion" for patients.
- State-of-the-art appliances and technologies:
- Invisalign - This year the office was awarded the status of Elite Invisalign provider, an honor reserved for the top 1% in the nation. Dr. Hamer is one of only 7 orthodontists in the state of Virginia that have been awarded this status. Being an elite provider reflects the level of expertise in working with the Invisalign system. Simply stated, Dr. Hamer has more experience and training with Invisalign than any other provider in the area.
- Invisalign Teen - Hamer & Hamer Orthodontics was selected by the Invisalign company to help with the early development of the teen system through the use of a combined approach using clear attachments and elastics. The doctors are excited to offer this esthetic alternative to their younger patients!
- "Innovation" braces - Using the newest technology in braces (a "self-ligation" bracket) reduces unwanted friction during tooth movement the doctors have found that they are able to reduce the treatment time with braces by 6 – 9 months! This is a huge advantage for the busy families and minimizes the time that the patients need to clean around the braces.
- Early Interceptive Orthodontic Treatment : The Hamer Team takes a thoughtful approach to evaluating whether early treatment offers any advantages to your child. Complementary consultations encourage families to explore developing needs and consider the pro's and con's of an interceptive phase of orthodontics. Complimentary Digital Photos help us to chart growth and development for advising on timing of treatment. Other issues considered and discussed include development of a child's self-esteem, and strategies to prevent the need, when applicable, to avoid extractions of permanent teeth and guide growth to avoid jaw surgeries when possible.
- Oral Hygiene Program : Mary McComsey, an in-house hygienist, works with patients when they get their braces on to teach how to keep teeth clean and healthy during orthodontics. We monitor all patients with Oral Hygiene Report Cards and communicate with dentists to keep you on track. When braces are removed Mary cleans the teeth to make sure all cement is removed and your teeth as well as beautiful.
- Patient Motivation Program: Our patients earn wooden nickels called HONI'S (Hamer Orthodontic Nickels) for keeping their teeth clean and complying with our instructions regarding elastics and other appliances. This system has contributed to cleaner teeth and shorter treatment times! They are highly motivated to earn these HONI's to use to purchase popular items displayed in our waiting room. Their biggest HONI reward comes from bringing a positive oral hygiene report card back from their dental office. Many local dental hygienists have expressed great pleasure in the changes they are seeing in oral hygiene!
