Avoid sticky and hard candies: Sticky sweets and hard candies can damage the brackets that are attached to your teeth. This doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a sweet treat, though. Choose soft options, like peanut butter cups, soft chocolate bars or ice cream (minus the nuts, of course!)
Make sure to brush: After enjoying your soft treat, be sure to brush your teeth and gums to keep your smile healthy. Braces can trap bacteria which can lead to cavities. Thoroughly brushing and flossing in and around your braces will ensure that you avoid cavities during orthodontic treatment.
Commit to excellent oral health year round: Taking the time to floss, brush properly and care for your teeth and braces every day will keep your mouth healthy year round.
